Deborah Raney takes a turn away from her trade-mark
heart gripping fiction to heart-touching fiction, in her latest hardcover romantic comedy,
PLAYING BY HEART.
Madeline Houser (Maddie's) is in a writer's slump. To top it off, she's moved to her
sister's home while it is renovated. Water floods the place and she is forced to take
refuge elsewhere. Elderly neighbor Ginny immediately knows a solution.
Widowed Arthur Tyler (Art) lives in the downstairs apartment of the Inn he and his wife
once ran together. Since her death, the upstairs of the Inn sits idle and gathers dust,
until his good elderly friend Ginny calls, with a request. One of her friends needs a
temporary quiet place to stay so she can write.
Maddie is ever thankful to Mr.Tyler, owner of the Inn, for his generous hospitality, and
although she hasn't met him they communicate through notes. His notes are compassionate
and Maddie finds herself drawn to him. In the meantime, she bumps into a handsome man who
steals her attention.
Art likes having someone upstairs. When he is home sick, the sounds of life - squeaky
floors, running water, the scent of fresh brewed coffee from upstairs, warms his heart. He
imagines Ginny's friend is puttering around as he thinks all elderly folk must. And, she
leaves nice messages for him. In the meantime, Art's bumped into a charming woman who
steals his attention.
PLAYING BY HEART is a sweet romance, showing how God can cure the lonely and broken
hearted, with a little help from His angels on earth - like Ginny. The story's faith
message is not preachy, but is skillfully threaded through Art's, Ginny's and Maddie's
lives - and will no doubt touch yours.
I highly recommend PLAYING BY HEART it is a sweet story with just enough angst to
make you sigh.
