Book 2 in
the Journals of Callie McGregor takes place in the winter of 1873 where
we find Callie with family and friends finally feeling at home, but
still battling the challenges of a settler’s life.
It seems that life
can finally take root in this new land. Callie has even developed a
friendship of sorts with an Indian chief. Rose survives Scarlet Fever,
but, all they’ve accomplished almost when Callie’s sister-in-law’s wild,
reckless past catches up with them.
But, just as Book
One, Promiseland wasn’t a simple tale of love and family, The Other Side
of Jordan isn’t just a recount of spectacular events. It is a journey
into life lived by faith even when it seems hopeless. The family forge
on with what they thought was God’s plan.
In addition to the
great story we get an intimate glimpse of how life was back then,
rugged, wicked, hard, and satisfying.
Author Dawn Miller
writes a compelling story, as if we’ve just unearthed a family journal
and are taken into the lives of our ancestors.
Integrity Publishing
has again packaged the book with the ragged edged pages and sepia photo
cover; making it a nice addition, (right by Promiseland), on my shelf.
I said it with the
review of Promiseland and the same holds true with The Other Side of
Jordan – if you’re a fan of American history, or women’s history, if you
like good writing, strong plots, and believable characters who become
friends – you must read The Other Side of Jordan.
