| A modern day
romance with a twist, ORCHIDS FOR ROSES is set in Nova Scotia, Canada. The night of high
school graduation, Deborah Parker says a tearful good-bye to her best friend, Victor
Stone, never dreaming it will be eight long years before she sees him again. While Victor
goes off to college with his girlfriend Amy, Deborah concentrates on opening a flower
shop, and breeds special hybrids of orchids on the side.
After college
graduation, Victor works at Angel House, a shelter for troubled teen boys. A counselor, he
is also heavily involved in Amy’s father’s political campaign. When Victor is
blamed for a devastating fire which destroys Angel House, Victor returns to his hometown.
It isn’t long before he discovers he’s really in love with his old friend,
Deborah. When Victor tries to end the relationship with Amy, she retaliates with a
horrible declaration, leaving Victor uncertain what to do.
Kyle Mason was part
of the trio in high school, and he has stayed in close contact with Deborah, helping her
to get her flower shop off the ground, and serving as her accountant for years. Kyle has
his own agenda for Deborah, and he is not happy when Victor reappears.
Ysonde, the daughter
of a dangerous terrorist known as The Flame, has been taught the art of making bombs.
Tired of harming innocent people; she wants out of her terrorist cell group. Michel, a new
recruit, might offer her a chance for escape.
The lives of these
young people are intermingled until the horrible night when the truth is finally made
known. Will Victor and Deborah get a chance at love? Or will Kyle and Amy succeed in
keeping them apart? Will Michel help Ysonde to make a dangerous break to freedom? Could
the attempted escape mean certain death?
ORCHIDS FOR ROSES is
a complex tale of romance and suspense. Jacqui Harrigan does a fantastic job pacing this
intriguing story, keeping the reader interested. I enjoyed all the action in ORCHIDS FOR
ROSES. There was never a dull moment in the entire book. I highly recommend ORCHIDS FOR
ROSES for a wonderful romantic suspense. While this is Ms. Harrigan’s first book, it
