Brighton discovers soon after recovering partially from the shooting that took place when
he was carjacked when on his way to an unexpected vacation in Mexico. The bullet not only
made a home in his skull, but also left him with big gaps in his memory - memory that he
will most probably never recover! To top it all, all the trauma and memory loss leaves him
with an altered personality!
Things start snowballing when the
dead body of one of the top people at Guardian, the software security firm established by
John to protect companies against hackers like himself, is discovered. Is it a drug deal
gone bad or is it something more sinister? A frustrated and worried John Brighton tries to
cope with impaired mental and physical faculties even as Guardian clients panic and the
board members of his own company form a conspiracy to boot him out! When disturbing
evidence starts to surface, implicating John in this murder, he begins to have doubts
about himself and his former personality!
His port in this storm comes in
the form of a green-eyed, attractive nymph, Kathleen Katie Cavanaugh,
whos the physical therapist assigned to him. She brings sanity and logic into a life
gone haywire and John begins to intensely care for her and trusts her implicitly.
Unknowing to John, Katie is an undercover FBI operative sent to find evidence to link John
to the murder! What she is not supposed to do is be attracted to a potential murder
suspect - so Katie fights against her feelings even as she searches for evidence
whether to exonerate or implicate John even she doesnt know!!
From the acclaimed author of Dark of the Night and After
Twilight, comes yet another fascinating and exceedingly intriguing romantic suspense
in Midnight Rain. This book is outstanding, from the shocking beginning
to the most unexpected and stunning end filled with suspense to its very core! This
intricately plotted story will leave the reader breathless with its taut pace and
serpentine twists and turns. Romance also plays a big role in this book. In fact this book
stands at the very crossroads of romance and suspense, with each element perfectly
balancing the other. The story has plenty of multi-layered characters who appear to be
very true to life. The mystery is very good indeed, and the ending is truly a spectacular
and startling revelation! A regular whodunit! Like in her last book, Ms. Davis has
once again set this story in her hometown of Austin, Texas. And she perfectly brings to
life the beautiful blending of steak and silicon chips which gives the Texas capital its
uniqueness!
Exhilarating, thrilling and just plain entertaining!
