Pregnant and losing
a war, is difficult enough for Englishwoman Orelia, but to make matters
worse, she’s in prison after her husband is killed and lands stripped
away. Orelia is newly widowed but while she mourns the death of her
husband, she is excited about the birth of her son.
Warrior Ceallach is
intrigued by this woman who by all means, should be in the pit of grief,
but her demeanor is different than other women. What gives her such
countenance?
Soon, a romance
develops between Oreila and Ceallach. When Oreila is called back home to
re-claim what belongs to her son, evil Edward is bent on preventing
anyone from reclaiming anything. With help, Edward will do anything to
have Oreila’s son not return, or killed. Even though Ceallach is a
strong warrior and has seen the result of war, his biggest fear is being
captured by Edward – whose torture techniques are well known and feared.
Because he is a man
of honor, and a man in love, Ceallach does come to rescue Oreila who is
in danger. Will he make it time to help? Or is Oreila attempting an
impossible feat?
The Mark of
Salvation focuses on the struggle to trust God in the midst of pain and
despair. How can God be there, when conflict, struggle, torture and
sometimes death are so prevalent? Is He still with them? Still
interested in their salvation?
Umberger writes
compelling stories with awesome characters. I love this book and think
it’s the best one of the series – so far. Yep, it was the last in
the series, but after much pleading, she’s working on number four!
