Job
wanted woman seeking inspirational speaking and writing opportunities.
Qualifications: high school drop out, teenage runaway, and agoraphobic.
This
is the beginning of popular Women of Faith speaker, Patsy Clairmont’s
book. Why this mock ad? Because Patsy’s life fits the bill.
The
chapters in this book are titled with the whimsy Patsy’s fans have come
to know expect: Mac the Milkman, A Dollar Down, a Dollar a Year, Little
Me etc. And, each chapter has a photograph from Patsy’s family album. We
learn a lot of Patsy’s angst, trials and troubles growing up and
developing into the women of faith she is today. And, in the midst of
all this is the ultimate message of hope.
Patsy
suffered from depression. She spent some of her adult life battling
agoraphobia (a mental condition that virtually keeps people prisoner in
their own homes.) The interesting thing is Patsy suffered these things
while she was a Christian. Wait a minute! How can that be? Christian’s
don’t suffer like this. Do they? Patsy gives a moving and thoughtful
testimony on why she believes God didn’t just miraculously cure her.
This
inspiring book will be a welcome addition to any library. Patsy
faith-based message is clear, but you don’t feel like you’ve been beat
over the head, instead your heart is warmed and your spirit lifted. If
you’ve ever wondered about faith in troubled times or just want to read
a story of hope, God’s love, and redemption, you’re going to love I Grew
Up Little. (I plan on giving copies to my aunts and my friend who
suffers from agoraphobia.)
