FOOL FOR LOVE by Eloise James

Lady Henrietta Maclellan has suffered much pain over her inability to carry a child.  With a slight limp from a bad hip, Henrietta believes that because of this, she shall never have her own children.  When she meets Josie and Anabel, the younger sisters under the care of their brother Simon Darby, Henrietta longs to love these young girls with her whole heart after falling for them quickly.  Henrietta sets a scandal into motion, with the help of her good friend Esme Rawlins that sets London on his ear and her as Simon’s wife when she writes a love letter that everyone assumes that Simon wrote to her, pledging his undying love.

Simon Darby is the most sought after man in society.  He doesn’t much care for the flighty debutantes that are pranced in front of him, but he is very much captivated by Lady Henrietta, but soon finds himself in the middle of scandal, deceit and up against the ladies in his family, as well as his feelings for Henrietta.  Simon’s life will never be the same, but doesn’t seem too panicked with the startling turn of events.

Is Simon ready to settle down?  Will Simon and Henrietta let their guards down long enough to entrust each other with their hearts?

I thoroughly enjoyed Eloisa James historical tale, FOOL FOR LOVE.  Henrietta and Simon are wonderful characters who capture the heart in this story.  The secondary characters, especially Esme and Sebastian, are intriguing and a big part of the story.  Simon’s two sisters, Josie and Anabel, were an absolute delight and steal the spotlight on many occasions.  This story is a wealth of love, family and an excellent capturing of the regency era.  Ms. James writes with knowledge of the 19th century, take readers back to a time where even speaking to one’s wife about how to prevent pregnancy and of the desires in the bedroom were frowned up in society.  When Henrietta broached the topic about birth control to Simon, I nearly fell off my chair laughing while imagining Simons’ shock.  While I found FOOL FOR LOVE not as strong in story as I did its prequel, Duchess in Love, this story still entertained, still captivated and brought wonderful characters and love to the reader.  I am hoping to see a tale written about Esme and Sebastian in the near future.  FOOL FOR LOVE is highly recommended!
