Colin
McIver comes home declared a hometown hero.
But for Nikki Gordon, he is anything but, in her
eyes. Five years ago, Colin walked away
from their
marriage to follow his career, leaving Nikki pregnant, though it was
unbeknownst to him. Now Colin is back
and Nikki’s life may never be the same. She
now faces the one man who still has the power to break her heart and to
bring
nothing but upheaval to her now quiet life.
But Nikki vows that no matter how great Colin is
with their daughter
Carly, she will never allow him to know the effect he still has on her,
nor
will she allow herself to fall for believing that this time, he might
just
stay.
Colin
McIver never wanted to hurt Nikki, five years ago or now.
But danger is stalking Colin, a killer intent
on revenge. Colin is determined to prove
to Nikki that they can have a happy ever after, but the walls she has
built
against him, take everything he has to knock them down.
Colin loves spending time with Carly and
feels that he and Nikki are working towards each other and the love
that they
still have for one another. But, when
the killer strikes too close to the ladies he loves, Colin has to
decide which
is more important, and might just have to risk everything he has to
ensure
their safety.
Brenda
Harlen releases her third title, Extreme
Measures and readers can be happy she has.
We are reunited with characters from previous
stories… Arden Doherty & Shaun McIver from McIver’s
Mission, Shaun’s brother Colin and the story of his
ex-wife Nikki and their daughter Carly, who once again make us laugh,
sigh and
even shed a tear or two in the pages of Extreme
Measures. It is an emotional
roller-coaster, reliving the pain of the past with Colin and Nikki, as
well as
the love and desire they still feel for one another.
Danger, intrigue, passion and love are
poignantly penned in this tale. Colin’s
life is in danger and he will do anything to protect his ex-wife, the
woman he
still loves and the daughter he just discovered he had.
Colin might not seem all that much of a
hometown hero for walking away from his marriage years ago, but there
are many
layers to his character and he definitely speaks to the reader
throughout the
book. His self-discovery, his honesty
and the depth of his feelings for Nikki and Carly are magical and very
endearing. Nikky knows that letting
Colin back into her life, might just mean heartache, but no other man
has ever
made her feel as he does and she finds it difficult to resist him.
Brenda
Harlen once again proves that she is an asset to the romance genre. Danger surrounds Colin and the intrigue is
edge of your seat tension. The love
between Nikki and Colin is larger than life and his new relationship
with his
daughter, Carly, will bring a tear to one’s eye. The
first thoughts that came to mind to
describe Extreme Measures are
pleasurable, provocative and my personal favourite so far, of Ms.
Harlen’s
stories. It’s an extreme pleasure to
read romance and danger when it is done as wonderfully as this latest
tale by
Brenda Harlen. Extreme
Measures comes highly recommended.
