Liz Jordan
is making some changes in her life. The
death of her husband left her and her eleven year old twin sons alone
in the
city. Liz sees trouble ahead for the
boys if she doesn’t get them away from the neighborhood where they live. Liz takes a Nurse Manager’s position in the
Othro/Neuro Unit at Eastlake Community Hospital and moves the family to
Eastlake.
Here she will be surrounded by old friends from
college days. Liz also knows she will have
a working
relationship with Dr. Jeff Carter who has been the object of her desire
for
many years. A brief encounter while both
were suffering losses has Liz wondering if she can control the desire
she feels
for the handsome doctor.
Dr. Jeff
Carter is displeased with how the Ortho/Neuro Unit is being managed so
when a
new Nurse Manager is hired he hopes she can get things under control. Bad things are happening to patients in the
unit, especially his patients, and Jeff wants answers.
At fifty-one years old, Jeff is still
suffering from the death of his wife who he’s loved since early
childhood. Since his wife’s death, he had
become a hot
commodity among the hospital nurses. He wants an affair, but with the right
woman. When he meets Liz he thinks maybe
she can be the answer to more than one of his problems, but will Liz
agree?
Liz wants
to keep the relationship professional especially since she is dealing
with a
disgruntled employee and office gossip.
Delores Forbes was the acting Nurse Manager and also
wanted a
relationship with Dr. Carter. When Liz
arrives Delores is returned to the position of floor nurse and is not
happy. Add to the mix, Delores’ son who
causes trouble for the twins and having to fight her attraction to Dr.
Carter, Liz
has more than she can handle. At first
Jeff just wants an affair, but soon realizes he needs Liz more and
more. Liz
knows her feelings for Jeff go much deeper and she can’t handle just an
affair. She thwarts his advances at every
turn.
I enjoyed
this book very much. Janet Lane Walters
put so much reality and feeling into this book.
The first sexual encounter between Jeff and Liz was
written so
right-on! The disappointment Liz felt
after the first sex was so real; she was scared, nervous and the fact
she
wanted so much more from Jeff than sex, left her feeling empty. Jeff’s awareness that he needed to show Liz
how good it could be between them and his realization that he wanted
more was a
significant turning point for the story.
Like so many men it was hard for him to come to
terms with his feelings
for Liz and finally put them into the words she needed to hear.
A Double Opposition is an amazing book that
I would recommend
for any reader. It has so much to offer…a
great hero and heroine, very well developed secondary characters,
sexual
tension, suspense…oh and let’s not forget the evil Delores and her son
who you
will dislike immediately. The story is a
perfect mix of all the things we want in a good book.
