Colin Fraser didn't
mean to clobber his sister with his wooden sword, it had just sort of happened. Nor did he mean to fall so easily into the hands
of his kidnappers when he crept out of his room for a late night snack while his parents
attended a party.
He'd been hungry, that's all. His parents had been so upset with him for hurting
his little sister that he'd just lost his appetite earlier.
He didn't like it when his parents were upset with him. They were going to be even angrier now, though,
because he'd not only left his room in the middle of the night to sneak down to the
kitchen, but he'd let himself be stolen away in the process.
When Melanie and Charles Fraser
return from another one of their terribly boring aristocratic parties and discover that
their son is missing, their first thought is that he must have run away. After all, they had been a little bit harsh with
him earlier after he'd knocked his sister silly with his wooden sword.
But they soon discover the awful
truth. Someone has kidnapped Colin. If the Frasers ever want to see their son again,
the kidnappers demand a ransom a ring of legendary powers and untold worth. Unfortunately, though both Frasers have at one
time seen the ring, neither one of them has it to give to the kidnappers.
Charles and Melanie immediately set
out on a mission to find the ring, vowing to recover it at any cost. In the process secrets are unveiled and
confidences betrayed, lives are lost and reputations ruined, all in a desperate quest to
obtain the one thing that can save the life of their son.
Melanie and Charles both have
well-hidden secrets that they've successfully hidden from each other for years. Now, they are both forced to be brutally honest. Will these reluctant confidences end their idyllic
marriage? Or can each forgive the other
before it is too late?
Tracy Grant's Daughter of the Game
is an absolutely stunning novel. The twists and turns of the exquisitely crafted story are
mind-boggling! Just when readers think
they've figured out the mystery of the plot, a new detail is unveiled. The action rips along at a wonderfully fast pace,
and the setting and details of historical England are marvelously rendered.
Grant's characters are very
masterfully written, with enough depth and substance to keep even the most jaded of
readers turning pages at a rapid clip. After
reading Daughter of the Game and Grant's skillful prose, I have to say I'm eager to
get delve into the second book in this series, Beneath a Silent Moon.
I highly recommend Daughter of the
Game to anyone who loves romance spiced heavily with intrigue.
