College teacher
Krista Mueller is called back to her hometown of Taos, New Mexico by her ex-high school
sweetheart, Dane McConnell, who now runs an Alzheimers care facility, who tells her
that her mother, Charlotte is dying. Long estranged from
her mother, Krista only goes out of a sense of duty
and a deeply hidden longing to
see Dane again. Arriving in Taos, Dane shows Krista a unique journal of her mothers
that Krista reluctantly begins to read. Torn by hurt, confusion and anger, Krista strives
to understand the strained relationship that has existed between her and her mother, never
expecting that the moment she reads the first note, a great emotional journey would rock
her to her very foundation. This journey of self-discovery tests not only her beliefs, but
also her faith and ultimately, her ability to forgive, not only her mother but also
herself, and to love and be loved in return. There are not
enough adjectives to convey the special and endearing message contained within the pages
of Christmas Every Morning. Ms. Bergren has written a heart-wrenching yet
glorious testament to the power of forgiveness and the healing balm of love. Her pages are
willed with poignant, bittersweet emotions
from the pangs of guilt to the thrill of
understanding. Ms. Bergrens writing style is compelling yet compassionate, her
ability to evoke all the senses a rare treat, and her ability to wreak havoc on an
emotional level brilliant. Reviewed by Denise M. Clark for The Road to Romance October 10. 2002
