Historical Romance

Canceled Courtship takes place in Regency London.

Lady Cecilia Sentenell is finally getting to have her London Season.  Lady Rolande and her daughter, Hedra were accompanying her father and her to London.  Her father, Sir Geoffrey has been ill and it’s only the medicine that Lady Rolande provides that gives him any relief.  Cecilia just wished that she felt she could trust her.  Something didn’t seem right with her dealings.  On a ride in the park, one of the first gentlemen Cecilia sees is Justin, Earl of Arandale.  He was flaunting his mistress in public.  Cecilia knows she never wants a husband who would take a mistress instead of her.  It didn’t matter if she never gets married, she wants true Love.

Justin, after research has decided that if he has to get married it will be to Cecilia.  He will be able to have a wife and he can still carry on with his mistress.  But after talking and dancing with her he is not as sure as he once was.  So when, after approaching her father, he gets a note back with her rejection, he find she can’t just let it go, he misses her company.  So he gets rid of his mistress and really starts to court Cecilia.

Alex Shackel, Cecilia’s father’s heir, has decided that not only does he want the estate, but he wants Cecilia too.  He does his best with Lady Rolande’s help to foil Justin at every turn.  The best way to get Cecilia is to keep her away from Justin and make sure her reputation is ruined that way she will have to marry him.

Can Justin convince Cecilia that he really does love her? Can he save her from Alex before he can carry out his plan?  What role does Lady Rolande have in Sir Geoffrey illness?

This is my first book by Gloria Gay, but it won’t be the last.  This is a great tale of growing love and respect in the era where faithfulness was not expected.  Alex is the perfect villain, equally evil to everyone.  This is definitely a book for anyone who loves the Regency era.
