Ex-Chicago cop Zack Lorenzo is
now a P. I. specializing in paranormal investigations.
Four years ago Zack found his wife Gabriella in their bathtub, where what
looked like a heart attack caused her to drown. A
few days after the funeral while Zack is visiting her grave, an archeology student named
Cecil tells Zack that there is really no one in Gabriellas coffin. When Cecil realizes who Zack is, he sets up
equipment to prove to Zack what he says is true...much to Zach's shock.
Since Gabriellas death Zack has
been investigating paranormal phenomenon. He is investigating a case of strange
disappearances of dead bodies out West in the town of Almanuevo, which leads direct him to
the doorstep of Sheriff Josephine Jo James.
Zach had read a newspaper article that indicated Jo had seen Zombies inside
a cave during a mining accident. Jo has never
talked about what happened that day in the cave with anyone, but she feels a connection
with Zack and tells him everything. Since Jo
is the only person to have seen these Zombies, she and Zack begin working together to
solve the case, visiting a number of practicing Wiccan Witches, Shaman and Magicians for
information. When one of the Witches tells
Jo and Zack that they are the only ones that can stop the evil from happening, they are
not quite sure how to destroy an evil they cant identify.
BURIED SECRETS is an excellent
investigative romance that delves into the Paranormal.
This story also has a touch of humor that takes the edge off the unknown
evil they are fighting. Jo and Zacks
argumentative conversations are comical and the relationship with Zack and Cecil is also
very comical. Zack irritates Jo to no end
with his acts of chivalry and his bossiness, but that however doesnt stop her from
wanting him. Zachs attitude towards Jo
is fiercely protective. Even though she is
the Sheriff, according to Zack she is still just a girl and hates that he has
brought her into danger. The connection that
Jo and Zack have is intense and magical.
Though I had expected a much more
dramatic ending to this story, I really enjoyed it. While
Zach and Jo each face their own fears, they develop a bond that will bring all forces of
evil to its knees. Evelyn Vaughn takes us on
an exciting journey of bone-chilling suspense and enjoyable romance.
