Nurse Kate
North returns home to Arizona after running from the past for the last six months. Kate has a new job, a new apartment and is set to
make a good life for herself. She meets Ramon
Santiago her first night home. He is suave,
gorgeous, wealthy and treats Kate like a queen. Kate
enjoys spending time with Ramon, but she feels that he is keeping things from her and she
doesnt feel that spark with him like she feels for Manny Reyes, the border patrol
officer who she has never been able to forget.
Kate had a
crush on Manny for years, but he always seemed to treat her like a little sister. The one time that Kate thinks Manny feels the same
way about her as she does him, she finds a woman at his place wearing only his shirt. Kate decided to leave town the next morning,
hoping to out-run her feelings for Manny Reyes. But
now that she is home, Manny tells Kate his true feelings for her and seems determined to
win her heart. But can Kate really trust
Manny? Many obstacles stand in the way of Kate and Manny finding happiness together, from
Mannys spiteful ex-girlfriend, drug-trafficking investigations...and murder.
Will Kate
and Mannys love conquer all or is it too late for them?
Suspense,
love and family make for a great read in BORDERLINE.
The family
bonds that are ingrained in this story are heartwarming and a large part of who Kate and
Manny are. Everyone in town seems to know how
Kate and Manny feel about each other, but it takes time for them to come together and tell
each other and even then, they have a difficult time of it.
The secondary characters shine along side Kate and Manny. Kates best friend and roommate Roni is a
tough girl who fiercely protects her heart but is unknowingly looking for the right man. Mannys best friend and partner, Mark is a
sweetheart of a guy that cares about both Manny and Kate and even shows Roni a thing or
two about men. And the romance with Kates
father Adam and Maria, the woman who helped raise Kate when her mother died, is sweet and
beautiful. And of course there is Brenda,
Mannys ex-girlfriend who just cant take no for an answer and the chilling
Ramon Santiago. All these characters and more
play an important part in the lives of Manny and Kate and make the story all the more
interesting.
Tambra Knipp
Vertrees adds surprising twists and turns to this story, just when I thought it was smooth
sailing for everyone, I was knocked on my tush with unexpected happenings. The mystery and danger surrounding Ramon Santiago
kept me on the edge of my seat and my heart pounding.
Ms. Vertrees
writes a suspense and loved filled tale that keeps the reader hooked from beginning to
end. All the characters are believable and
well developed. Romance, danger and excellent
writing......hopefully Ms. Vertrees is writing another great tale as we speak!
